December 03, 2007

Fort Worth, Texas – Republican Mark Shelton has earned the endorsement of the Texas Association of Business’ political arm, the Business and Commerce Political Action Committee (BACPAC), for the Special Election Runoff in House District 97.

“Texas businesses are the backbone of our economy, and the Texas Legislature must promote an environment in which businesses succeed,” Shelton said.  “I am thrilled that BACPAC has endorsed my candidacy, and I look forward to working with them to promote a healthy business climate in Texas.”

When issuing the endorsement, BACPAC Spokesman Bill Hammond stated, “Shelton is the only candidate in the House District 97 race who recognizes that a healthy business environment directly results in a thriving economy and increases the number of available jobs in the area.”

Shelton is a pediatrician at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.  He and his wife, Mary Ann, have raised their four children in House District 97.  Shelton is an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts organization, the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth, and the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth.

House District 97 is located in Southwest Tarrant County, and includes part of Fort Worth, Benbrook, and Edgecliff Village.  The Special Election Runoff will be held on December 18, and Early Voting will take place from December 10 through December 14.
